Solo in Cali
Updated: Feb 28, 2018
I decided 2017 was going to be the year I lived my life unapologetically without permission. In my early 20’s I would take a trip to L.A. every year to visit one of my closest friends whose become family over the years. But as I have grown in my journey, things have changed quite a bit for me. After not visiting Cali for about 5 years, I decided to take an impromptu trip. I’d recently released my first book, 52 Thoughts for Higher Living, and honestly, I needed a break. For the first time ever, I didn’t stay in L.A. I opted to stay in a spare room at the home of a friend. It was very minimalistic with just the essentials and located in the beautiful Santa Monica.
I didn’t rent a car and I didn’t plan anything fancy. I did exactly what I wanted to do each day. I did very little Ubering and lots of walking and bike riding. I ate healthy and drank green juice. I did lots of mediation, reading, writing and took lots of pictures. But my most profound moments were found in the little things as I would be going about my day. I realized that everything in our world speaks to us and teaches us. From a shedding flower bud, to some randomly planted birds of paradise amongst weeds or even getting lost in an unfamiliar place. Here are a few things I brought home with me.
Be the one who stands out in the crowd. There is no need to compare things that are obviously so different.
Just because you shed a few pieces doesn’t mean you aren’t whole.
Sometimes you will be guided away from your original destination but you’ll always find something more beautiful on the new path. And if you get tired when you turn around to get to the original destination, just Uber! Know your limits, just saying. Ask for help, ask for support.
Be SPONTANEOUS! You might just run into a really cool taco place with no name.
What other people think about me doesn’t make me money. What I think about myself makes me money.
The bigger my story the smaller “their” part.
Whatever you do, don’t forget to live. Love yourself. Hug yourself. Heal yourself.
